ResearchTurk Space Selected Among the #100PARSEC | PARSEC Accelerator, Horizon 2020

February 2020 | European Union – Horizon 2020

ResearchTurk Space was selected among the 100 best applicants of the PARSEC Accelerator Open Call 1 (#100PARSEC), joining a European acceleration programme supporting the development of innovative products and services powered by Earth Observation (EO).

The first PARSEC Open Call attracted 348 applications from 36 countries. Following the competitive evaluation process, 100 applicants were selected to join the first stage of the PARSEC Accelerator. ResearchTurk Space was among these #100PARSEC beneficiaries.

PARSEC – Promoting the International Competitiveness of European Remote Sensing Companies through Cross-cluster Collaboration – was funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No. 824478. The accelerator was designed to support the creation of innovative Earth Observation-based products and services with market potential, particularly in the food, energy and environment sectors.

As a #100PARSEC beneficiary, ResearchTurk Space entered the first stage of the accelerator, which provided €10,000 in equity-free funding per beneficiary, together with training, mentoring, coaching, matchmaking, networking and access to PARSEC's business-support tools and innovation ecosystem.

The ResearchTurk Space concept focused on the innovative integration and use of Earth Observation and multiple data sources, exploring ways to transform complex information into more accessible and actionable knowledge and to support new EO-based applications for societal, environmental and urban needs. ResearchTurk Space's profile and approach were also featured on PARSEC's official #100PARSEC platform.

The PARSEC programme originally included a mandatory three-day onsite Bootcamp scheduled for 27–29 March 2020 in Stuttgart, Germany. Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting restrictions on international mobility, the physical Bootcamp was cancelled and replaced by an online PARSEC Bootcamp on 27 March 2020. Training, matchmaking and other programme activities scheduled during this period were similarly transferred to online formats, enabling the acceleration programme and collaboration among the #100PARSEC beneficiaries to continue remotely.

Selection to #100PARSEC represented an important milestone for ResearchTurk Space, recognising the innovation potential of its Earth Observation approach within a competitive European programme and supporting the further development of its EO-based R&D and innovation activities.
