MuğlaPark UNESCO – Cultural Heritage Capacity-Building Project | Muğla, 2021–2022

The MuğlaPark UNESCO Project, coordinated by ResearchTurk Space Founder Dr. Tamer Özalp, was launched with its first project meeting in Muğla on 17 August 2021. The project was developed as a capacity-building initiative bringing together local and regional authorities around the identification, documentation and protection of Muğla’s cultural and natural heritage.

Over the course of the project, a series of meetings, field visits, training activities and collaborative working-group sessions were carried out. Through these activities, participants worked together to identify and document Muğla’s cultural and natural heritage assets, contributing to the creation of a cultural heritage inventory and strengthening local and regional institutional capacity for heritage protection and management, as well as for UNESCO World Heritage processes.

As part of this broader initiative, the GEKA-supported capacity-building and training programme was implemented from 26 September to 7 October 2022, combining theoretical and applied training on UNESCO World Heritage processes. The programme marked the conclusion of the MuğlaPark UNESCO project activities following more than a year of meetings, field studies and collaborative work.
