Dr. Tamer Özalp presented the GÖKTÜRK-2 satellite project at the 70th International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2019) in Washington, D.C., with his paper entitled “An Inspiring Earth Observation Mission of Turkey, GÖKTÜRK-2; New Opportunity for Space Application Community.”

The presentation highlighted the success story of GÖKTÜRK-2, the first satellite developed in Türkiye with a national brand and licence, and its significant contribution to the development of the country's space capabilities.

Dr. Özalp played an active role in the development of GÖKTÜRK-2 as a member of the project's Steering Committee between 2005 and 2011, as well as a project initiator, developer, catalyzer, and system and concept designer. He expressed his honour in being part of this pioneering Turkish space initiative and working alongside distinguished Turkish scientists, experts, engineers and decision-makers who contributed to the development of Türkiye's space activities between 1999 and 2011.

In his presentation, Dr. Özalp emphasized GÖKTÜRK-2's role as an important cornerstone and building block in the development of the Turkish Space Programme, demonstrating Türkiye's growing national capabilities in Earth Observation, satellite technologies and space applications.
